Taking to Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, she explained how she was struggling to get her hands on draught excluders.

Deciding to take matters into her own hands, she made her own - using items she already had at home.

In the post, she shared an image of a pair of tights that had been stuffed with the contents of the inside of a pillow.

Alongside the snap, Melanie penned: "Just made 2 draught excluders with old cushion fillings and a pair of tights, took 5 mins cost nothing.

"Not perfect but will do the trick."

She added: "Might help somebody because my son went in about 5 different shops looking to buy some and nowhere had any."

It wasn't long before people took to the comments section to praise Melanie for her very clever idea.

"Fantastic," praised one.

A second enthused: "This is GENIUS!! Thank you for sharing."

A third agreed: "This is fab! Great way to use and recycle also as I have old flat pillows I don't know what to do with."

Meanwhile, a fourth commended: "That's a great idea. Thank you."

And another penned: "I got my draught excluder from the Range, they didn't have a lot to choose from though so that is a great idea."

Elsewhere, others who have also made their own draught excluders revealed their top tips and tricks.

"I've been making them too. I add rice for a bit of weight and to absorb moisture," revealed one.

A second pointed out that "old jeans work well too" while another advised: ""If you can’t sew then cutting the leg off jeans cable tie bottom stuff and cable tie top."

A further recalled: "I'm sure my mum used to use newspaper in tights back in 80s."

And one more added: "Fab idea. I've stuffed with old socks!"

Other suggestions included cutting up a pool noodle and placing it on the bottom of the door and rolling up an old throw and placing a hair bobble on each end.
