Melanie C has shut down rumours that the Spice Girls were set to play at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
Back in December, Mel B sent fans wild as she fuelled rumours the superstar girl group were set to reunite at the iconic weekend, following in the footsteps of Sir Elton John, who earlier in the day announced he is to headline at Worthy Farm in 2023.
In an appearance on Channel 4 's The Big Narstie Show on Friday, Scary Spice teased the possibility during a chat about the forthcoming 25th anniversary of the band's movie, Spiceworld.
She dropped hints that the band were set to appear, before backtracking, as though she had let on too much.
But her bandmate has now shut down the rumours, saying that while she would love to play at Worthy Farm, it’s not part of the group’s plans at present.
Spice Girl Mel C embarks on unexpected career change after 'ditching singing'The singer, real name Melanie Chisholm, was asked if festival co-organiser Emily Eavis has called on the band to perform in an interview with The Guardian.
Mel told the publication: “It’s the question I hate the most because the answer is as disappointing to me as it is to Spice Girls fans.
“We would love to do Glasto. It just doesn’t fit with the current plan with the girls. We do want to get back on stage – everything is up in the air.”
The Spice Girls – minus Victoria Beckham - hit stadiums around the UK three years ago as they reunited for a huge tour.
And Sporty Spice went on to say she reckons the band could get back together with Posh Spice involved in the future.
Mel C explained: “Of course, we had incredible stadium shows in 2019. And you know, there’s definitely a bit of FOMO for [Beckham], so I’m a big optimist.
“We were all at Geri’s 50th a couple of months back and Victoria was the first one on the dance floor requesting Spice Girls songs.”
At the time of the tour, VB excused herself, stating that she “couldn’t commit” to a full reunion tour “with everything else that I’ve got going on with my fashion, and my beauty line, four children.”
Glastonbury 2023 is set to take place between June 21 and June 25.
