THE SILVERSTONE circuit, for many, is the spiritual home of F1, the British Grand Prix has entertained audiences for over 80 years, although the last few decades have been more turbulent than circuit bosses might have liked.

Following a brief, disastrous idea to switch to Donnington and even one speculative idea to host the race around the streets of London, Silverstone kept its lease and is closing in on a century of phenomenal antics. In its own way, they have helped define some of the most legendary moments in F1 history, and perhaps this weekend, we will see more of the same.

F1 British Grand Prix 2023 odds for drivers

  1. Max Verstappen at 2/7 at bet365 – the Dutch-Belgian superstar is currently riding a wave of form that few drivers have matched in the history of the sport. Verstappen is below evens to win the Driver’s Championship outright, which is, quite frankly, ridiculous at this point of the season. The Red Bull powerhouse broke the record for the fastest lap at Silverstone, so it seems it’s a mere formality he will end up at the top of the podium again this weekend.
  2. Sergio Perez at 10/1 with BetUK – in the event that a falling piano lands on the car of Max Verstappen, Mexican star Sergio Perez will likely be the best of the rest and leading the way. However, his odds just how far ahead of his peers Max Verstappen is at the moment; it really is his race to lose.
  3. Lewis Hamilton at 12/1 with Unibet – No driver has been on the podium more than Lewis has on home soil, and with eight victories, his legacy in the sport is already cemented amongst the very greatest. It might be the last time we see Lewis on the podium at Silverstone, given his retirement is inevitably around the corner. Could one final inspired run see him win it for the 9th time?
  4. Charles Leclerc at 16/1 with Betgoodwin – Leclerc has been racing well recently, but it would take a superhuman effort from the Ferrari man to win Silverstone. We’d be stunned to see the Monégasque driver end up on top of the podium.
  5. Fernando Alonso at 20/1 with BetUK – the Spanish legend has entered the twilight of his excellent career and currently races for Aston Martin. Although he might be buoyed by a more positive run of form of late, you’ll find similar odds for Alonso winning Silverstone as you would for Leclerc.
  6. Carlos Sainz at 22/1 with Spreadex – Alonso’s Spanish counterpart is part of the chasing pack, and it’d take a lot for him to surpass some of the other favourites. This could land a big return if Sainz can get the sort of luck that saw him win last year’s British Grand Prix.
  7. George Russell at 30/1 with 10bet - Given that he’s a British driver, George might aim to put on a hometown show for his Mercedes team, but it’s a really tough ask given the quality of some of the other contenders this year.
  8. Lando Norris at 150/1 with bet365 – it must be difficult going into a race where certain bookmakers have you starting off as a 100/1 shot, but stranger things have happened!
  9. Lance Stroll at 150/1 with VBET - Both have Lance at 250/1 to win Silverstone if you’re feeling like he could pull off one of the greatest F1 upsets of all time.
  10. Esteban Ocon at 150/1 with BetUK - There are some impossible odds on the Frenchman to do the impossible essentially.

F1 British Grand Prix 2023 betting preview

We can’t overlook Max Verstappen, his blistering form of late has been marvellous to watch. While he might not see eye to eye with many of his fellow F1 drivers, his performance and consistency can’t be questioned, and at this stage, they can’t be matched. He seems to be entering a period of his career where he looks totally untouchable, and with five straight finishes at the top of the podium, he will be eager to make it six on the spin.

Verstappen will be keen not to repeat last year’s misfortune when a puncture derailed his winning hopes, and he still went on to win the Driver’s Championship, so we’re sure he didn’t lose too much sleep over it. Barring this happening again, surely, he will be the one who comes out on top.

F1 British Grand Prix 2023 betting tips and odds

More often than not, when there’s such an overwhelming favourite for the race, there can be more value in specialist markets.

Fastest lap by Lewis Hamilton – 10/1 at BetVictor

Even Verstappen finds himself at less than evens for the fastest lap, which is to be expected considering he holds the record, but it’s still astonishing. Our tip for Hamilton is based on his home crowd, and an intimate knowledge of the course, and the fact that it could be his last ever appearance at the famous circuit. One last one for the road, maybe Lewis?

Podium finish for Carlos Sainz – 7/2 at bet365

Sainz was bigger odds last year to finish on the podium and ended up winning the race. Granted, it took a big slice of luck, but for him to finish in the top three this year, we'd say 7/2 is a good price. After Verstappen, you could make a strong case for any of the next five or six to end up on the podium, so 7/2 might provide some value.

Top 6 finish for Lando Norris – 13/8 at Sky Bet

While this market might not sound like the greatest value, Lando is Bristolian and could channel the same patriotic sentiment to look for a top 6 finish. He’s already managed it at the Australian Grand Prix this year, so we'd say 13/8 is worth a go, and if last year’s Silverstone is anything to go by, there could definitely be one or two surprises this weekend.
