NEWCASTLE are reportedly chasing Manchester United’s Scott McTominay with the star concerned by his lack of recent match action.

The Scottish midfielder, 26, started six of the first seven Premier League matches under Erik ten Hag.

But he was last named in the starting XI back in October in the top-flight and has lost his place to Casemiro.

A report from the Daily Telegraph now claims that McTominay is “worried” about his lack of game time.

It adds that the United academy graduate is wanted by Newcastle.

He is “widely liked” by Eddie Howe and the management team at St. James’ Park.

And he is also allegedly open to a move with Newcastle set to launch a transfer bid if they get the green light that he is available from Old Trafford chiefs.

However, with both clubs battling it out in the top four, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils would sell to a rival team.

The Magpies are flying high and sit third in the Premier League after Sunday’s last-gasp win over Fulham.

That put them a point ahead of United, who have a game in hand on the North East outfit.

United are also still fighting on four fronts this season and only have four senior central midfield options with McTominay and Casemiro fighting Fred and Christian Eriksen for a start.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are looking to free up room in their squad for a new midfielder by making two stars available.

We reported yesterday that winger Ryan Fraser and goalkeeper Karl Darlow are both available for transfer this month.
