BEN STOKES incredibly took to Twitter at 4am to dispel claims his England team had snubbed their Aussie rivals for a post-Ashes beer.

Following the conclusion of the Ashes series, it had been suggested in the media Down Under that England and Australia had not met up for the traditional post-series drinks at The Oval.

It was reported the England team had seemingly snubbed their Aussie counterparts after winning the Fifth Test to draw the series 2-2.

Australia's players are said to have knocked on the Three Lions dressing room door, only to find it locked and giving up at 10:45pm after an hour of waiting.

They are also said to have asked about meeting up with the England team half a dozen times without receiving a response.

However, England captain Stokes has now revealed the real reason for the failure for the teams to meet.

The 32-year-old took to Twitter at 4:11am to clarify that the situation had actually been caused by the team's wrap taking longer than expected.

This was because of "multiple last time events", with this series being the last for retiring stars Stuart Broad and Moeen Ali.

Stokes wrote: "To clarify… Our wrap took longer than expected because of multiple last time events."

He then went on to add that the traditional drinks did still happen, just with the teams meeting at the night club instead of in the dressing room.

Broad took the final two wickets to secure England's 49-run victory over Australia in the final test.

Speaking on Broad's retirement, Stokes added: "That's Broady's career, isn't it? It was written in the stars for him. It was his moment.

"That bloke has been incredible for England, the longevity of his career and what he has achieved should never be forgotten.

"I'm so glad that a lot of his friends and family were here to witness what happened today."
