I tried Karcher's battery powered extraction cleaner and it's the ideal household appliance for removing carpet stains, refreshing furniture, upholstery and your car's interior.

The extraction cleaner is designed to clean deep into fibres of your car's interior, seats, sofas, carpets and other textile surfaces - and conveniently all without the need for a cable, which is great news if you want to tackle an area outdoors, or those awkward places to get to in the home.

The two-tank system includes a tank for the water and cleaning solution mix and the other is to collect the dirty water. It also comes with a 1.9m hose, an upholstery spray extraction nozzle and a crevice nozzle for the spray extraction cleaning.

I'll admit that when I unboxed all the items, charged up the battery, it took me quite some time to finally test it out, assuming there were going to be a lot of technical features I'd need to get to grips with, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Once I was ready to use the Karcher Battery Powered Extraction Cleaner, it was actually so easy to get going.

I decided to watch the instruction video via Kaercher.com as the instruction booklet wasn't clear to read, and I needed to figure out which tank the water and solution went in. The video made it look super simple, in fact there was nothing to it. Within minutes the small tank was filled, the hose and battery were inserted, I turned the nozzle to power it up, and off I went.

I decided to head straight for the tea spill stains on the staircase that had been there for quite some time - within seconds they were all gone! They were pretty easy to remove and needed little to no elbow grease to lift off and you could see the stain being sucked into the cleaner.

Next I attempted to remove some liquid stains that had spilt on the landing carpet, over time they've gotten darker and darker as they've been walked over with fluffy socks for a while. These stains were a little harder to remove as they were well embedded into the carpet, but after a few hard pulls across the carpet at different angles, they finally lifted off.

After extracting from these two areas the water solution tank had emptied and needed refilling, as well as the other tank too. I had used all the solution that came with the extraction cleaner so decided to use my Flash detergent which worked out well, and everything smelt so good.

I thought I would give the hallway runner a go and attempted to work on just a third of it so that I could see if there was much difference once it had dried.

There was a watermark on one of the front seats in my car, so this was the perfect opportunity to try and get it looking back to new. The stain lifted right away and I could see all the dirt lifting off the seat too, so I know the extraction cleaner was doing its job even on dirt that you can't see!

It's worth noting that the Extraction Cleaner is best for using on small areas, especially if you suffer with back or knee issues as you'll need to bend or crouch down to get to the area you're wanting to clean.

The upholstery spray extraction nozzle works using two parts, there's the part where the water sprays out from the back and there's a part that sucks up the water and the dirt which you can see as it happens. I also discovered that there's also a knack to getting the most out of the extraction via the way you hold the nozzle. I found that by holding it completely upright the dirt lifted right away, at first attempt.

Having finished all my extractions, I then had to clean the machine, to do this all you do is fill the water solution tank with fresh water, make sure the crevice nozzle is attached to the hose, stick it in the water tank hole and switch the machine on and the fresh water will run through the machine giving it a good clean.

So if you've got furniture or upholstery that could do with some love, kids that come with mucky car seats and muddy footprints on your carpets and rugs to name just a few, and pets that refuse to wipe their paws before entering the house, fret not because the Karcher Battery Powered Extraction Cleaner is great option that will give everything a refresh.

If you want to get your hands on one, Amazon has it retailing at £181.67, and you can also get it at Karcher and it's currently priced at £129.99 down from £159.99.
