Newsboy's racing tips for Friday's five meetings, including Newmarket nap

FINEST LEADER looks ripe for a hat-trick in the Maritime Cargo Services Outperforming The Opposition Handicap (7.10) at Newmarket this evening.

After defeats on his first five starts, the last two in handicap company, the Roger and Harry Charlton-trained son of Churchill is unbeaten in two outings since being stepped up to a mile and a quarter and fitted with cheekpieces.

Taking on seven opponents at Wetherby at the start of June, Finest Leader enjoyed a red-letter day with a neck margin from Blue Yonder.

Put up 5lb as a result, Finest Leader went in again at Newbury a month later, coming home with gusto under Oisín Murphy to beat Graham by a length and a half.

There’s a further 5lb rise to deal with here, but Finest Leader, for whom the Charltons have engaged champion jockey William Buick, has more to offer and is fancied to go in again.

In Newmarket’s concluding Maritime Cargo Services Container Gallop Handicap (8.20), EQUIANO SPRINGS is taken to give his rivals weight and a beating.

The Tom Tate-saddled nine-year-old was back in business over course and distance 20 days ago and an additional 3lb on his back for a three-quarter-length beating of Abate shouldn’t stop another good account.
