Simply called Alone, each contestant will be dropped in a random location and given basic tools to fend for themselves.

The aim of the game is to see who can survive the harsh environment for as long as possible.

Once dropped at their individual locations, with no camera crew, producers, or experts to help them, the competitors must battle the elements, loneliness and starvation, under the constant threat of predators including bears and wolves.

They face the ultimate trial of skill, mental strength and resilience in one of the most inhospitable locations on earth - and they must do it alone.

Whoever is the last one standing will walk away with an eye-watering £100,000.

The ordinary civilians are aged from 19 to 58 years old as Channel 4 say they "are not die-hard survivalists".

Included in the cast lineup is an autistic forestry manager, an NHS worker, a London PR executive and a builder from Wallasey.

The series will air Sundays at 9pm and run for six week with each episode 60 minutes in duration.

While the format is new to the UK, it's been on American screens for the past 10 years.

It's also in Denmark, Norway and Sweden with a global audience watching through Netflix.

Alone landing on Channel 4 comes as the BBC prepare to bring back Survivor after 20 years.

Alone begins Sunday, August 6th at 9pm on Channel 4.
