BRITS have been warned that driving below the speed limit can see them banned, fined and even jailed.

Motorists could get away with a verbal warning from a police officer, but in extreme circumstances, they can receive penalties for careless and inconsiderate driving or even dangerous driving.

If you are charged with careless and inconsiderate driving, you could be slapped with an unlimited fine, three to nine points on your licence - or you could lose your licence.
Penalties for dangerous driving are more severe as they involve two years' imprisonment, disqualification, an unlimited fine and three to eleven points on your licence.
But in less severe cases, you'll probably only be charged with a low-level speeding offence, which carries a £100 fine and three penalty points.
Some roads have minimum speed limits to avoid congestion - and you're more likely to spot them in high-risk areas such as tunnels.
