THE sadistic killer of young mum Nadine Lott has had his face "sliced open" in a shock prison attack.

Daniel Murtagh, 36, is believed to be scarred for life after he was slashed on the B1 landing at Midlands Prison yesterday.

During the vicious hit, Murtagh was reportedly "sliced open from his temple down to his chin".

Speaking to the Sunday World, the source said: “The incident kicked off on the B1 landing at approximately 5pm.

“Murtagh is an inmate who rubs people up the wrong and it looks like it finally came back on him.

“The lad who attacked him opened him up from his temple all the way down to his chin."

The sourced added that Murtagh had to be rushed to Portlaoise Hospital due to the serious injuries he sustained.

The inmate involved was then segregated and is now facing disciplinary proceedings behind bars.

This isn't the first time Murtagh has faced a threat to his life in the slammer.

At the beginning of his sentence, the Clondalkin man received a number of death threats while he was caged in Dublin's Wheatfield Prison.

He was placed on a protection wing and kept away from most of the rest of the prison population.

He was then moved to the high security Midlands Prison "for his own safety" in July 2022.

SHOCKING ATTACK

Murtagh was slapped with a life sentence after he beat Nadine Lott with his bare hands on December 13, 2019 at her apartment in Arklow, Co Wicklow.

He battered the 30-year-old mother of his daughter so badly her face was barely recognisable.

The ambulance crew who arrived at the scene were deeply shocked by the condition he left her in.

Sadly, Nadine died from her "extreme and grotesque" injuries in St Vincent’s Hospital three days later.

The Clondalkin man - who has never shown any remorse for the depraved killing in front of their then six-year-old daughter Kya - had initially pleaded guilty to manslaughter before a jury unanimously convicted him of murder.

He received a life sentence in October 2021.

However, almost a year since his conviction at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin, Murtagh seeked to have his conviction quashed in July 2022.

In an exclusive interview with The Irish Sun, Nadine’s mum Claire previously told how she believes Murtagh’s attempt to evade justice is part of his plan to “retraumatise” her family.

She said: “It is incredible that this evil monster has the ability to challenge the conviction, and not from his own financial resources but from the resources of the State.

“The taxpayers’ money, my taxes and my family’s taxes are contributing to support the narcissistic actions of a monster.

“Nadine was forced from this life, from her loving family and her adoring daughter purely because one emotionless, evil coward decided  that she was to leave in the severest of pain and terror imaginable.

“She had no one to defend her, except her baby who was also forced to watch and then live with the terror for the rest of her life.”

Claire also said: “In the true fashion of this monster, who is unremorseful for his actions, his narcissism is presenting itself again in this revolting bid to overturn his conviction.

“Again, mercilessly, he is inflicting the re-traumatization of Nadine’s loved ones for his own self-interest.

“Challenging the power of the legal process which we are told to trust. However, this same trust is open to be abused at will by this vile monster at our expense.

SALT INTO WOUNDS

“Frequently, we have observed the system and it appears to sit on the side of the perpetrator but in this instance the ability to appeal should not be available.

“When you are convicted by the law of the land to such a heinous crime such as murder, he should have no more rights.

“Nadine and our family do not have the ability to appeal for her return. He ensured Nadine has no reprieve, she cannot apply to come home or overturn what he did to her.

“Our wounds have been reopened and salt being rubbed into them for effect as the monster looks for leniency - leniency to justify his actions on the night he violently murdered our beautiful Nadine.”
