Manchester United's defensive problems have been compounded by news of an injury to Raphael Varane (£3.7m) that may keep the Frenchman out until the end of the month - he joins Luke Shaw (£4.9m) on the sidelines.

In brighter news for Erik ten Hag, Rasmus Hojlund (£4m) is available to make his debut for the club on Sunday while new recruit Sergio Reguilon (£2m) is also in contention to feature for the Red Devils against Arsenal.

Juanma Lillo, still filling in for Pep Guardiola, informed journalists that both Manuel Akanji (£4.7m) and Phil Foden (£4.5m) have recovered from illness.
