LIAM SMITH aimed a couple of brutal digs at Chris Eubank Jr ahead of their grudge rematch.

The bitter British rivals do battle once more tonight back at the Manchester Arena just nine months after Smith's shock knockout win.

Neither had really got started before the former light-middleweight world champion trapped Eubank in the corner in round four.

A barrage of shots floored the middleweight for the first time in his career but somehow he got up.

But Smith made no mistakes in finishing the job off by once again flooring Eubank for a second knockdown.

Referee Victor Loughlin had rightfully seen enough and waved off the contest - much to Eubank's dispair.

And ahead of their rematch, Smith claimed he had harder sparring sessions with amateurs in the gym.

While he also boasted of being so fresh he played for his local sunday football team the next day.

Smith, 35, told Sky Sports Boxing: "I'll be honest with you, I've had harder spars with amateurs than what that fight was for me.

"The fight never got going. I'm not saying Chris was that bad but the fight the way it panned out was a bit of a chess match.

"And then then first time I got close I landed a combination and he went over. I never got going, I never had a mark on me, I went to football the next day."

Eubank has admitted it is do or die in the first rematch of his career and refused to even entertain the question of whether defeat will cause an early retirement.

The 33-year-old said: "We're not talking about that. Don't ask me questions like that."
