RAY PARLOUR has recalled the time he thought the Arsenal team bus had crashed after leaving White Hart Lane.

The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham in November 2001.

However, club legend Parlour remembers it as the day he and his teammates almost "had it".

Spurs fans created a hostile atmosphere for their North London rivals three months after star defender Sol Campbell swapped White Hart Lane for Highbury.

And it resulted in a frightening post-match coach journey for Arsene Wenger's side.

In an interview for the official Arsenal programme, Parlour said: "I remember the first time we went back to White Hart Lane after he [Campbell] signed in 2001.

"We were on the coach with the police and they told the driver not to stop, just keep going, and they would stop the traffic.

"I said to Arsene Wenger, 'Why don't I put a sign on the window saying 'Sol sits here' so at least they don't get any of us by mistake!'

"But anyway, we hammered it around the corner and we heard a massive crash.

"It scared the life out of us, we thought a window had gone in, but it was all the plates coming out of the cupboard at the back of the bus.

"It was unbelievable, I thought we'd had it!"

Parlour made his professional debut for Arsenal in 1992 and went on to make 449 appearances before joining Middlesbrough in 2004.

He won four FA Cups with the Gunners and three Premier League titles - one of which came at the end of the 2003/04 campaign, when Wenger's side went unbeaten for the entire league season.
