Manchester United have secured a lucrative new sponsorship deal with American technology company Snapdragon.

For the past two years, the club have had TeamViewer on the front of their home and away shirts, after the Germany-based software firm signed a five-year deal worth £47million per year. However, both parties announced in December that the club would buy back the rights to the sponsorship in a “mutual” decision.

That development came after TeamViewer was put under intense pressure from shareholders, who were angered by what they viewed as an extortionate financial commitment in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. Indeed, Petrus Advisers, who have a 3 per cent stake in TeamViewer, wrote a letter criticising the “appalling judgement” of the company, and demanded they reneged on the deal.

“We demand that you stop bleeding millions and rapidly disengage from this mess,” the letter read. “We therefore demand that you enter professional exit discussions with a clear goal of a quick solution and that you do it immediately.”

The club have been since been in talks with Snapdragon and on Tuesday, a report on confirmed: "Manchester United plc has agreed to an expanded strategic collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., that will see the Snapdragon brand displayed on the front of the club’s famous shirt.

"Qualcomm Technologies is already a global partner of Manchester United, promoting its Snapdragon brand. Snapdragon processors power premium products from the world's biggest brands across smartphones, PCs, extended reality glasses, gaming devices, wearables, and connected cars.

"Under the expanded agreement, Snapdragon will become Manchester United’s front of shirt partner from the start of the 2024/25 season. Featuring on the home, away and third kits of the men’s and women’s teams."

Snapdragon are renowned for powering smartphones, computers, chargers and gaming devices. The company was launched back in 2007, and on United's summer tour of America this year, donated the Snapdragon Cup trophy to Wrexham after they beat the Red Devils in a pre-season friendly.

Traditionally, United will sell around two millions shirts each year, with the club undoubtedly remaining one of football's biggest global clubs. Although sales of their 2023/24 shirts this summer were inadvertently delayed.

Back In June, the club were forced to close the megastore at Old Trafford on the day the new kits were released. That was due to around 100 fans conducting an anti-Glazer protest amid a prolonged takeover saga, with the American owners still seemingly reluctant to sell the club.
