Everyone remembers writing lists to Santa - the sheer excitement of asking for the latest toy in our stocking, the books we desperately wanted to read, and a selection box of tasty treats.

But one mum was left baffled at her 10-year-old daughter's Christmas list, as she's asked for a huge array of pricey products - including a new iPhone, iPad and a laptop. The stressed mum is already worried about paying for an upcoming school trip, and was stunned when her little girl asked for thousands of pounds' worth of tech.

Opening up to another parent, who goes by Hannah Home Educates on TikTok, the mum asked for advice after receiving the eye-watering Christmas list. In response, Hannah has urged parents to "not get into debt for Christmas" as she spoke to her own daughter, who was off camera, discussing whether what the woman's daughter had asked for was reasonable or not.

Hannah said: "My take on this is that it's an extortionate amount of money for what she's listed. It doesn't sound like stuff a 10-year-old, if they weren't surrounded by people who were also being shown this stuff, would naturally gravitate towards. An iPhone, an iPad, and a laptop - they all do the same thing basically.

"If that was me, there's no way", she shared, and her daughter said the same as there are "too many screens." Hannah said there was "nothing to play with" on her list, and her daughter interjected: "Get her toys", as she recommended some that are age-appropriate, including Brain Flakes, Magnatiles, Lego, clay sets, skipping ropes, a hula hoop, and a pedal go.

Hannah's daughter also suggested experiences such as going to a theme park, the theatre, or for afternoon tea. Hannah explained that 10-year-olds have "no concept of money", sharing that maybe she'd want to break it down for her daughter into how many hours she'd have to work in order to pay for the items she'd requested - but "not in a really heavy way."

Hannah then said she'd get one of the things she'd requested and would be getting it secondhand, with insurance and a "really good case." The mum also said she'd probably get an iPad out of all those items and an "old c**p phone" if she needs one.

In the comments, others agreed that a phone wasn't the best idea, especially if she didn't already have one. Someone said: "If she's never had a phone, definitely not a brand-new phone." Another added: "An iPad does everything. No need for calls/texts at 10. iPad had messaging apps and chat in games. Laptops are more for high school work."
