Arsenal transfer news live - Balogun and Tierney exits sealed as Schuurs wanted

Arsenal have had a busy summer with Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and David Raya all signed – but the Gunners aren’t done yet.

An injury to Timber means that Mikel Arteta is still hopeful of signing one more defender before the close of play in the transfer window. However, the focus at the Emirates is moving on multiple players from their bloated squad.

Kieran Tierney and Folarin Balogun are set to move on to Real Sociedad and Monaco respectively, while the club are also open to deal for Rob Holding, Cedric Soares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Nuno Tavares and Nicolas Pepe – among others.

One player they are keen to keep hold of is Gabriel Magalhaes, who despite not starting in Monday’s win against Crystal Palace remains a key part of Arsenal’s squad amid interest from Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the Brazilian.

Alexis set for Inter return

Alexis Sanchez has arrived in Italy and is expected to undergo a medical on Friday before completing his return to Inter Milan as a free agent, Sky Sports reports.

The former Arsenal forward has been a free agent since leaving Marseille earlier this summer.

Gunners eye Schuurs

Following Jurrien Timber’s long-term knee injury, there were suggestions that Arsenal could once again turn to the transfer market for back-up and it appears that one of his compatriots is on their shortlist. According to La Stampa, the Gunners are interested in Torino star Perr Schuurs.

It is suggested that Arsenal are considering an approach for the versatile Dutch defender. Whilst it has not been revealed whether the Gunners have lodged a bid for his services as of yet, they already have a good idea of the price they would have to pay.

Amid previous interest from North London rivals Tottenham, as well as Liverpool and West Ham, Torino confirmed that they would want to receive around €40m (£34.2m) if they were to sell their star defender.

Tavares agent jets in for talks

The agent of Nuno Tavares has reportedly flown into London for talks as the defender edges towards an exit from the Emirates Stadium. The Portuguese left-back was previously of interest to Nottingham Forest, only for the deal to stall.

According to reports, his representatives have arrived in the UK in an effort to seal a move. Aston Villa are mentioned as one of the clubs who could make a swoop before the end of the transfer window. It is suggested that Tavares is available both on a permanent deal and on-loan.

Monaco ‘close’ to Balogun agreement

French side Monaco are reportedly close to sealing the signature of Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun. The American international was expected to leave the Emirates following his standout spell with Reims last term.

Clubs in Italy, as well as Premier League rivals Chelsea, were interested in a deal for Balogun but it appears that Monaco have put themselves in prime position to sign him. According to Sky Sports, they are close to a verbal agreement with Arsenal on a fee.

It is suggested that a formal offer will soon follow, with Monaco then set to engage in talks on payment terms with the Gunners. Personal terms have also already been agreed in principle.

Malouda's bold top-four prediction

Florent Malouda believes that Arsenal will miss out on the top-four alongside Manchester United - despite winning their first two Premier League matches.

He told Betway: "I think Chelsea will struggle to get in the top-four - but I think they'll still do it. Manchester City are above all teams in the league, then I would pick Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea after that.

"It's a transition season for them, but I'd pick them over Man Utd. To make it in the top-four now is very difficult. City will be champions again."

Arsenal urged to sign Isak

Emmanuel Petit has urged Arsenal to go and sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

He told BettingSites.co.uk: "Alexander Isak is tall, aggressive and has great technique. He wants to score every time he gets the ball but he needs to be more precise in his game. Physically and technically, he has a huge presence on the pitch. If one day someone can tell me that he plays like Thierry Henry, maybe I will believe them, but for the moment it’s really too soon to say that.

"He's a good striker and he's someone that Arsenal would be very happy to have because he brings different qualities. Jesus and Nketiah play in a similar way, they are different in terms of movement, but physically, technically and in their finishing they are not far apart.

"I was upset by Nketiah's finishing against Crystal Palace, he had two good chances, and Arsenal need to have a striker that can score 30 goals in all competitions throughout the season, it's something missing at Arsenal if they want to improve. Isak is a very good striker and finished very well in the second half of the season last year after being injured. He started well this year again. If he can avoid being injured, because it's been a problem since he arrived, we will see his real qualities."

Arsenal working on exits

Arsenal are working hard on at least seven first team exits before the the transfer window closes next week.

According to Football.London, the Gunners are trying to ensure that potential loan deals have obligations to buy included in them, but preference is to get players out permanently.

Monaco prepare new Balogun bid

Monaco are preparing a new offer to sign Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun, as per Football.London.

Positive discussions have continued between the two clubs over a move for Balogun after Monaco saw a bid in the region of £34m rejected by Arsenal two weeks ago.

Bent questions Smith Rowe decision

Darren Bent has questioned why Mikel Arteta has not used Emile Smith Rowe during Arsenal's opening two Premier League matches this season.

Bent said on talkSPORT: "I think there’s something going on there. I don’t know, I thought he’d certainly get given an opportunity. But he hasn’t.

"Kai Havertz, it’s almost like Mikel Arteta is trying his hardest to get him into his Arsenal side."

Lazio keen on Guendouzi

Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri wants to bring Matteo Guendouzi to Italy, according to Il Messagero (via the Evening Standard).

Arsenal are expected to receive a sell-on fee if the Frenchman moves to Lazio from current club Marseille.

Guendouzi joined Marseille on a permanent basis last summer after impressing on loan.

Arteta and Wenger disagreed on Mavropanos

West Ham have completed the signing of former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos - just 15 months after his permanent departure from the Emirates Stadium.

Mavropanos, 25, left the Gunners to join Stuttgart for £3million in May 2022 after spending the previous two seasons on loan with the Bundesliga outfit.

The Greece international was a firm fixture in the Die Roten back-line last term and made a total of 89 appearances during his three-year stay at the club.

Ozil's ruthless Arteta remark

It has been almost two years since Mesut Ozil sent a damning message to Mikel Arteta after Arsenal were thrashed 5-0 at Manchester City.

The result pilled the pressure on Arteta as the Gunners sat bottom of the Premier League heading into the first international break of the 2021/22 season.

Arsenal had lost their first three matches against Brentford, Chelsea and City, with Arteta facing serious questions over his future.

Toney's admiration for Arsenal

Ivan Toney has revealed he's a Liverpool fan... but has a soft spot for Arsenal.

The England international, 27, is currently serving an eight-month ban after breaching the Football Association's gambling rules. He will be available to play Premier League football again in January.

Toney told the Diary of a CEO podcast: "I have been a Liverpool fan my whole life, but from young I have liked Arsenal, I like watching Arsenal and how they play and kind of how passionate the fans are.

"But, yeah, Liverpool fan - Liverpool boy at heart."

Brighton in Lokonga talks

Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga has emerged as a target for Brighton, according to 90min.

The Seagulls are looking to strengthen in midfield after selling Moises Caicedo to Chelsea for a Premier League record sum.

The Belgian is one of a number of targets for Roberto De Zerbi's side, who have also pushed for Cameroonian youngster Carlos Baleba.

Brighton lost another midfielder earlier in the summer when Alexis Mac Allister joined Liverpool, though they have been able to add Mahmoud Dahoud and James Milner to their ranks.

Lokonga joined Arsenal from Anderlecht in 2021, playing 24 times in his first season.

He struggled for minutes last term, though, ending the season on loan at Crystal Palace.

Arsenal clear on Gabriel

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists speculation about Gabriel's future had "Nothing at all," to do with the Brazilian being benched at Crystal Palace. "It's about the games we were expecting, how I wanted to defend and attack."

The former Lille centre-back has attracted interest from Spain and Saudi Arabia, but Arsenal are in no mood to sell. Indeed, Arteta is clear he does not want his squad unsettled.

Real Madrid are thought to be keen on a move, while Saudi giants Al-Ittihad are also fans. The Saudi transfer window stays open longer than its English counterpart, meaning Arsenal might not be able to rest for a while yet.

Balogun keen on Chelsea

Folarin Balogun is keen on a move to Chelsea as Arsenal prepare to listen to offers for the American, writes Tom Victor.

However, the Blues aren't the only team keen on a man who Arsenal value at around £50m.

Monaco and Fulham are also interested in the 22-year-old, who enjoyed a breakout season on loan at Reims last term.

Inter Milan has earlier appeared keen but turned their attention elsewhere.

Ligue 1 side Monaco have seen a £34m bid knocked back, and - while there may be some wiggle room on the asking price - questions remain over Arsenal's willingness to sell to a rival.

Chelsea have a number of forwards in their sights, including Balogun, after losing Christopher Nkunku to injury.

Champions League latest

Arsenal won't get their Champions League campaign underway until mid-September, but we're one step closer to knowing who they might face.

The play-off round is underway this week, with the first legs of three ties taking place tonight.

FC Copenhagen claimed a 1-0 win away to Rakow, while Royal Antwerp will take a one-goal lead of their own to Athens for their second leg against AEK.

The third game saw Rangers host PSV Eindhoven, and the Scottish side could only muster a 2-2 draw despite taking the lead twice at Ibrox.

Arsenal will be in pot two for the group stage, with the play-off winners going into pots three and four.

Young Gunners claim penalty shoot-out win

Arsenal's Under-21s left it late to draw against Swindon in the Papa John's Trophy, before a Karl Hein penalty save helped them seal victory after a shoot-out.

The youngsters twice came from behind to draw 2-2, with Lino Sousa and Jimi Gower on target, and it was 5-4 to the Londoners on penalties.

Their next game comes against Exeter City in October, with a trip to Reading in the calendar for one month after that.

Mavropanos' unfinished business

Dinos Mavropanos has spoken of his excitement at returning to the Premier League after completing a move to West Ham.

The Greek international joined Arsenal from PAS Giannina with lofty expectations, but left with just eight appearances to his name.

Seven of those appearances came in the league, with the most recent being a 3-1 win against Burnley under Unai Emery.

ICYMI: Arsenal celebrations speak volumes

Mikel Arteta was made to suffer but ten-man Arsenal showed the fight required to grind out a precious win at Selhurst Park.

Gunners captain Martin Odegaard struck the decisive penalty after 53 minutes and that might have paved the way for a more comfortable win.

But Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu was sent off following a second - and very harsh - yellow card after 67 minutes to leave the visitors hanging on by the end.

Schuurs battle heats up

Arsenal face competition from Spurs for Perr Schuurs, according to football.london.

The Dutchman has emerged as a potential target, with Mikel Arteta's side weighing up whether to add defensive reinforcements after losing Jurrien Timber to injury.

Schuurs, who has also been on Liverpool's radar in the past, is expected to cost around £25m.

Papa John's line-up confirmed

Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly are among the young talents chosen to start in the Papa John's Trophy tonight.

Zane Monlouis captains the side against Swindon, with Karl Hein in goal for the young Gunners.

The other two teams in the group are Exeter City and Reading.

Mavropanos joins West Ham

Konstantinos Mavropanos has completed a move to West Ham, just a year after leaving Arsenal for Stuttgart.

Mavropanos' move to the London Stadium - reported at £17m - will earn Arsenal a financial boost, thanks to a sell-on clause included when he moved to Germany following a successful loan.

“It’s an exciting time to be joining the Club after last season’s Europa Conference League win – and I am really looking forward to this next step in my career," the 25-year-old said.

Silvestre makes Rice goals claim

Former Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre believes Declan Rice can follow Granit Xhaka's example from last season and up his goal tally.

“I believe the number of opportunities for Rice to score goals and push forward will increase simply because Arsenal are a dominant team, and they will get into positions inside and outside of the box,” the Frenchman told bettingexpert.com.

“A bit like the way Xhaka was able to increase his goals and assists when he played in that position for Arsenal.”

“Rice will benefit going forward because Arsenal are a top team in the Premiership, and he will take advantage of it.”
