He rang 999 and then his daughter to tell her to avoid the area before she headed to work in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

He told YorkshireLive: "The whole front of the car was on fire. It was getting worse by the second."

But to his horror his daughter said she had already left home.

And then she told him she had been in the engulfed taxi just moments before the inferno broke out.

Fortunately she managed to get out after the cabbie pulled over when smoke began rising from the bonnet.

She managed to get a bus for the rest of the commute to make it in for her first day back at work after Christmas.

Kevin approached the driver who was unharmed and had called the Fire Brigade, which the dad also did.

Fireman put the blaze out but the car could not be saved.

Speaking after the incident, the shocked dad said: "My daughter seems alright.

"It's the last thing you expect when you're going to work in the morning."

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called just after 6.30am this morning [Tuesday] to a vehicle on fire in New Hay Road, Huddersfield and were able to quickly extinguish the flames.

"Thankfully, no one was injured or needed medical assistance. Crews left the scene within half an hour, leaving the owner with his vehicle.”
