At different checkpoints players were given the opportunity to leave, but once they realised how much of a difference the money could make to their lives, many started to compete out of choice.
A first look trailer at the spin off, called Squid Game: The Challenge, revealed a whopping cash prize of £3.7 million ($4.5 million).
Real life contestants dressed in the same green tracksuits characters wore in the fictional show could be seen competing in very similar challenges to the ones in Squid Game.

Some TV lovers have branded the new reality show 'gross', saying that the creators completely missed the point of the original series.

"It ain't hard to see how humanity is gonna play our own denouement for clicks, profits, & shits & giggles."
Another added: "Netflix making a real squid game is sooooo gross."
Someone else agreed: "This is unethical media production at its finest."
One person hit out: "I'm just agog that they looked at a story that is meant to be a cautionary tale and said "let's do it for real (minus actual murder)."
A fifth took to social media complaining: "Really?? Who wants to watch Squid Game as a reality show game?? We want a real Squid Game Season 2."
