HARRY Potter star Sir Michael Gambon has died aged 82 his family have said.

A statement on behalf of his wife Lady Gambon and son Fergus Gambon, issued by publicist Clair Dobbs, said: "We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon.
"Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82.

Anne was married to Sir Michael Gambon since 1962.
The pair tied the knot when the actor was just 22-years-old and they welcomed son Fergus together.
They remained married up until his death.

In 2002, Sir Michael revealed he was also in a relationship with set designer Philippa Hart, who was 25 years his junior.
The late Irish-English star also shared two sons with Hart named Tom and Will.

Sir Michael's career took off when he became one of the original members of Laurence Olivier's National Theatre acting company in London.
Throughout his career the actor would regularly appear in Shakespeare productions with the National Theatre – delighting audiences up and down the country.

He quickly rose to fame thanks to his distinctive booming voice and powerful presence on both stage and screen and went on to win three Olivier awards for performances in National Theatre productions.
The actor had last appeared on stage in 2012 in a London production of Samuel Beckett's play All That Fall.
However, it was his role in the popular film franchise Harry Potter that Sir Michael was best known for.
He played Hogwarts' headmaster Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series between 2004 and 2011, replacing the late Richard Harris.
His first appearance in the JK Rowling franchise came in The Prisoner of Azkaban before appearing in four more instalments.
