But it now appears he will open up a new chapter by joining AEW, where he could join other WWE icons - Chris Jericho and Matt and Jeff Hardy.

Edge, real name Adam Copeland, claimed to have received a contract offer to continue his stay at WWE.

But the veteran, who has won a record 31 championships, is set to leave the company this weekend.

And if he signs for AEW he could take part in WrestleDream on Sunday - the PPV is headlined by Bryan Danielson and Zack Sabre Jr.

Edge, 49, burst onto the scene in 1996 and won the WWF Intercontinental Championship three years later.

He has won the World Heavyweight Championship a record seven times, as well as the WWE Championship on four occasions.

Edge was also hugely successful in tag-team alongside Christian Cage, who is the current AEW TNT champion.

The pair could reignite their partnership if Edge joins AEW, though they did split several years ago.

Edge retired in 2011 due to several neck injuries, and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame the following year.

He returned to wrestling in 2020 and won the Royal Rumble a year later, becoming the third star to win it as the first entrant.
