Ahead of the game, McGinn was interviewed by Jules Breach and Peter Crouch live on TNT Sports.

However, during their conversation, he gave away details of Emery's line-up twice, prompting him to say sorry to the Villa boss.

Having played at left-back in the midweek Carabao Cup loss to Everton, McGinn was asked what his favourite position is.

"My favourite position?" he replied. "Up front. Get me up there running about.

"I quite like the inside right position, you might see me in there today. I don’t know if I’ve given that away but I quite like changing it.

"It shows that the manager trusts me and I’m enjoying it definitely.”

Noticing McGinn had hinted where he would be playing, Breach joked we can expect to see him on the inside right.

The Scotland international added: "I’ve given it away. I apologise to the manager."

McGinn has shown his versatility since joining Villa in 2018, playing across the midfield as well as at full-back and on the left of a front three.

Named club captain in the summer, he has appeared in all 10 of their matches across the league, Carabao Cup and Europa Conference League.
