Coleen Rooney has branded her friendship with Rebekah Vardy "unnatural".

The wife of footballer Wayne Rooney has said she "can tell" when someone is "trying to force a friendship because of your status". Coleen won her libel case against Rebekah, dubbed ‘Wagatha Christie’. The legal case was ignited in October 2019 when mum-of-four Coleen took to social media to sensationally accuse fellow WAG Rebekah, 41, of selling stories about her personal life to The Sun.

She made the accusation revealing she had planted fake stories on her own social media channels, but limited who could see the false information, and then was surprised when the fake news made its way into the tabloids. Rebekah furiously denied she had been leaking the information and sued Coleen for libel - with the case resulting in a high-profile high court trial which ended in July last year with the judge ruling in Rooney's favour.

Speaking to The Times ahead of the release of a new documentary called Coleen Rooney : The Real Wagatha Story, she shared what her relationship with Rebekah was like. Coleen said she is "very savvy" when it comes to people's intentions surrounding friendships, and found "the friendship Rebekah was trying to put on me was unnatural.”

She said: “Obviously Rebekah has lived my life to a degree, in the public eye. So I never thought someone would do that to someone else. But I knew she enjoyed the limelight and would do things only to be in the public eye." Coleen admitted that the more she knew about Rebekah, "the more I wasn’t surprised.”

A three-part documentary is set to delve into the sensational libel case and be narrated through exclusive access to Coleen. In addition to her own account, the documentary will feature interviews with her family, legal team, and key figures involved in the ensuing trial. Coleen nearly broke the internet when she shared a tweet naming fellow-WAG Rebekah Vardy, wife of Leicester City F.C. Jaime Vardy, as the person responsible for leaking stories to The Sun about her family.

Coleen earned the name "Wagatha Christie" when she shared details of her sting operation in which she blocked "everybody but one person" from viewing her Instagram stories to find out who the culprit was. Rebekah denied all allegations and sued Coleen in one of the UK’s highest-profile High Court defamation cases of recent years.

After keeping tight-lipped about the ordeal for over three years, Coleen broke her silence last month as she branded Rebekah 'odd' and said her 'evil' texts read in court made her sick to her stomach. The private Whatsapp messages sent from Rebekah to her agent were released as part of the Wagatha Christie trial last year. In the foul-mouthed texts, Rebekah repeatedly called Coleen a c*** and said that she 'deserved everything she gets' after discovering that her fellow WAG had unfollowed her on Instagram. Coleen said that although she is a 'forgive and forget person', the situation with Rebekah is 'totally different'.

The Mirror has contacted Rebekah Vardy's representative for comment.
