“It is with broken hearts that Peter and I have to let you know that Jasper, America’s Dog, died today,” Perino wrote on Instagram.
“A fast-spreading cancer caused him to leave us sooner than we’d ever hoped."
How did Perino and McMahon meet?
They met aboard a flight from Denver, Colorado to Chicago, Illinois, and were married 11 months later.
In a 2018 interview with Yahoo!, the couple recalled their meeting and the early days of their relationship.
McMahon said, "All week, I'd been thinking about Dana. I couldn't stop thinking about her."
Perino agreed, saying, "I spent those 10 days unable to eat, or sleep, or even read."
The couple eloped in England, according to Deseret News. Her parents did not know about the marriage until they had dinner a few weeks later.
Perino, who currently co-anchors America's Newsroom and serves as co-host of The Five on Fox News, was 25 when they met.

The couple rent a New York City apartment and own a home in New Jersey.

Perino served as George W. Bush's press secretary from September 2007 until January 2009, when the president left office.
She told Deseret News that she planned to resign as deputy press secretary when the promotion came because she did not see any room for advancement.
“Immediately I knew, with just a snap of the finger, that my life had changed dramatically for the rest of my life,” she told the outlet.
Perino attended the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo.
She has said she used the fact that she went to a small state school as motivation when she was at the White House.
It's now called the Colorado State University-Pueblo.
“I had a bit of an inferiority complex when it came to my education when I was at the White House, at least at first,” she told Deseret News.
“They’d all gone to Harvard or Yale or Stanford. When I said I’d gone to USC, they thought I meant I was a Trojan, and I was, ‘Oh, no, we were the Indians, in Pueblo, Colorado.'
“One of the ways I found to set myself apart, to catch up, was that I always wanted to be the most well-read person in the room.
"And when I was the White House press secretary, I would make sure that everyone in the room knew that I was the most well-read person in the room. And that gave me a measure of power.”
