Matthew Perry was spotted out with a mysterious woman the day before he died.

The legendary Friends actor, who died on Saturday aged just 54, appeared in good spirits in the meeting with a woman at the Hotel Bel-Air in California. Matthew was found unresponsive in his hot tub at around 4pm and was declared dead after emergency services went through a water rescue protocol.

In the years before his death, Matthew was vocal and candid about his experiences in the hospital and with addiction. In 2018, the actor suffered from an exploded colon and coma, given a 2% chance of survival. Nonetheless, he lived and entered a period of recovery.

People close to the star have told reporters he "was never happier" than he had been in recent weeks and had even committed to act in a movie. The authorities previously confirmed that it will take additional time to further investigate with the potential of the investigation to last weeks or months. In the statement, authorities said: “Although there were no obvious signs of trauma, the official cause of Perry’s death is pending the coroner’s investigation."

Information about the coroner's investigation went missing from their website after originally being published. While on Monday, Matthew's case was listed online and marked as "deferred," the case information was no longer on the site by the end of the day. Police did not provide additional information, responding to an email from The New York Times, noting the department had “not yet concluded its investigation.”

A friend who went through recovery with Matthew confirmed previously to the Daily Mail that prior to Matthew's death, he did not seem to be using drugs. They said: "He was upbeat and sounded sober and positive. He’d been to rehab 17 times and nearly died from opioid abuse but he was someone who was sincere about taking his life, and his sobriety, one day at a time."

Additionally, the source said: "Everyone is in a total state of shock. People are crying on the phone and struggling to accept this news. It’s no secret that he struggled with drugs and alcohol for years but the last time I spoke to him, which was within the last few weeks, he seemed to be in a good place."
