Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story will explore the high-profile defamation case between Coleen and Rebekah Vardy that dominated headlines in 2022, premiering on Disney+ later this week.

The eagerly anticipated documentary will see WAG and amateur detective Coleen speak in depth about the infamous High Court case, with the mum-of-four's friends, family and husband Wayne Rooney also speaking on camera about how the saga impacted their lives.

Coleen and Wayne are seemingly in a good place with their relationship right now, but things haven't always been so rosy for the Croxteth-born couple. Back in 2017, Coleen admitted she was unsure if her marriage was "at an end" following Wayne being arrested for drink driving in September that year.

Wayne was pulled over by police in Cheshire with estate agent Laura Simpson sat next to him as he drove her VW Beetle following a boozy night out. While Laura always insisted they didn't sleep together, that didn't mean she didn't throw a few jibes at Coleen and her family amid the fallout.

Laura blasted Coleen's statement about the state of her marriage to Wayne as "attention seeking b*****ks" following the WAG breaking her silence in November 2017 about Wayne's boozy night out. The party girl didn't stop there, poking fun at the Rooney family a few months later with a pointed Secret Santa gift.

Coleen released a statement following Wayne's late-night drama and clarified she was standing by her man, but blasted his "silly and selfish mistakes" and admitted "it has been a s**t time, and yes, time was spent apart and I thought my marriage might have been at an end."

An extract from the lengthy Facebook statement read: "It didn't feel right wearing my ring, I see it as a sign of commitment and I was unsure what was happening. I don't always wear my ring day to day, especially when I go the gym which is where I get stalked by paps each morning.

"So, if I don't always have it on, maybe it's just because am going the gym or haven't put it on before the school run!! A few people have been feeling sorry for me, please don't. I appreciate getting cared about, however, I am a strong person, I don't feel sorry for myself. Also a few people are probably thinking am stupid for staying in my marriage.

I am not stupid, I know my own mind and it's something I want to try and work on. Before the headlines start.... No, I’m not taking Wayne back as he's never left. Yes, it has been a s**t time, and yes, time was spent apart and I thought my marriage might have been at an end."

Laura, who was caught in the car with Wayne when Cheshire Police pulled him over, was quick to react to Coleen's admission - initially tweeting: "What a load of attention seeking b*****ks." However, she quickly deleted and had a change of heart, returning to Twitter with a new take later on - "Very very attention seeking if you ask me."

She didn't stop there when it came to throwing some shade Wayne and Coleen's way. In December the same year, Laura took to social media once again to upload a snap of some Secret Santa gifts she received from pals, which included a nod to her drunken dalliance with Wayne.

Alongside a Herbal hangover comforter and novelty baubles, Laura was gifted a book based on the popular ITV series Footballers Wives, titled "How To Be A Footballer's Wife." Clearly chuffed with the cheeky present, Laura quickly shared a snap of the book on Twitter and quipped: "What a great Secret Santa present #secretsantabanta."

Wayne's drink-driving shame was brought up once again last year, but this time it wasn't Laura making it a topic of conversation. Coleen reflected on the difficult time her husband had been pulled over by the police with a woman in his car when testifying during the Wagatha Christie High Court case.

"I was in a vulnerable situation – there had been some wrongdoing by my husband," Coleen told the court, referring to the 2017 episode. She went on to add: "I didn't know how my marriage was going to work out. Me and Wayne were trying to figure out our relationship and where we were going, but I didn't want the public to know that."
