Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has set his sights on hiring Marcelo Bielsa after axing Frank Lampard.

The Toffees are languishing in the bottom three of the Premier League having won just three games all season and are without a manager after Lampard's dismissal on Monday. Moshiri has been through a host of iconic managers, including Champions League winners Rafa Benitez and Carlo Ancelotti, while former Leeds boss Bielsa is the latest big-name boss on his radar.

Mirror Football understands that Moshiri has identified the Argentine as the man he wants to reinvigorate the Merseysiders, who have never been relegated in the Premier League era. He is reluctant to act without the consent of the Everton board, however, and would prefer a collaborative decision.

Fan anger is mounting at Goodison Park as banners and chants highlight their discontent with the hierarchy during another season near the bottom of the table. Bielsa's last job came with Leeds, whom he guided to promotion back in 2020 after more than a decade out of the top flight.

The Argentine's brand of football attracted huge praise whilst at Elland Road and he led the Whites to a ninth-place finish in their first campaign back. Last term, however, he was shown the door with the Yorkshire outfit struggling to fend off the threat of relegation.

Former Burnley boss Sean Dyche, who has been out of a job for almost 12 months, is another man to be linked with the vacancy at Goodison Park. Fan-favourite Duncan Ferguson has previously taken caretaker charge at the club and is also among those who could be considered.

Everton have time to make their decision as the club are not playing for a fortnight having been dumped out of the EFL Cup and FA Cup. They will face league-leaders Arsenal on February 4 in what could be a baptism of fire for the new man in charge.

The Toffees said on their decision to axe Lampard: "Everyone at Everton would like to thank Frank and his coaching staff for their service during what has been a challenging 12 months. Frank and his team’s commitment and dedication have been exemplary throughout their time at the Club.

"But recent results and the current league position meant this difficult decision had to be taken. We wish Frank and all his backroom team well for their future in the game. The Club has started the process to secure a new manager and will provide updates on the appointment in due course. Paul Tait and Leighton Baines will take training until a new manager is appointed."
