The View's Whoopi Goldberg demands viewers stop 'ruining the fun and jokes'

Whoopi Goldberg has been forced to speak out during a live broadcast of The View as she urged fans to stop ruining their fun.

The 67-year-old panellist slammed viewers for taking their jokes too far and said people are "making it hard to have fun" on the daytime chat show.

During Thursday's episode, Whoopi interrupted a discussion about Madonna's Grammy Awards appearance to set the record straight about a joke argument she had with co-host Joy Behar the day before.

80-year-old Joy had earlier admitted that she didn't have friends when she was fired from the show 10 years ago, despite Whoopi also being a cast member at the time.

The Sister Act actress trembled her lips and began to fake cry in response.

However, Whoopi has now had to set the record straight after some fans took their joke too far.

"I need to take a second. People, Joy and I were having fun yesterday and once again you have taken it to some other place.

"We have been friends for 100 years! First of all, if I was upset at Joy I wouldn't tell her on the show."

Whoopi added: "You're making it hard to have fun. We're on the show for an hour, we don't get to joke a lot but when we do just let us run with it."

"This is not the first time this has happened, nor has it been a long time since it happened. This is happening more and more, we joke, we have a good time and please do not take that away from us," she urged.

Fans took to Twitter to share their support for Whoopi, with one person writing: "@TheView Thank you for saying it straight Whoopee!

"Let the ladies have fun stop imagining bad feelings and anger between them! It’s The View for a reason! #TheView"

Another added: "Some folks took it THAT personally?? I take some things personal, but I knew they were joking.

"And I've said about how Whoopi pretends to be bored during certain fluff topics, and I KINDA take that a way, but, at the same time, I know she's joking! #theview."

Earlier this week, Whoopi also took aim at fans as she revealed the panellists had a top secret discussion during an advert break which would never be aired.
