PRINCE Harry and Sir Elton John suffered a major blow yesterday after a judge threw out a chunk of their evidence in their claims against a newspaper group.

High Court Judge Mr Justice Nicklin ruled part of their case was inadmissible — saying it would “bring the administration of justice into disrepute” if it continued.

He said there was “significant public interest”' in blocking them from using confidential documents handed to the Leveson Inquiry 12 years ago.

But the Duke of Sussex, 39, and Sir Elton, 76, were given leave to take the rest of their claims against Associated Newspapers to trial.

They are among seven claimants — alongside Baroness Doreen Lawrence, Liz Hurley, Sadie Frost, Lib Dem Sir Simon Hughes and Sir Elton’s husband David Furnish — suing the publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday over alleged unlawful information gathering.

Associated Newspapers strongly denies the allegations.

In a statement the group said: “As we have always made unequivocally clear, the lurid claims made by Prince Harry and others of phone-hacking, landline-tapping, burglary and sticky-window microphones are simply preposterous and we look forward to establishing this in court in due course.

“We are grateful to the judge for the careful consideration he has given to our applications.”

A further preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 21.

The newspaper group has attempted to halt the case, saying the claims were out of time - as they usually have to be brought within six years.
