JASON Manford has left fans divided after he called for "bulls***" homework to be banned during a foul-mouthed argument.

The comedian, 42, ended up in a fiery online debate after suggesting he start a Government petition to stop additional work being sent home from school.

Jason has even compared himself to footballer Marcus Rashford, who successfully campaigned to get free school meals to children during lockdown.

Writing on Twitter, the Starstruck star said: "I thought it as a kid and now I think it as an adult: homework is bulls***!

"It trains you to think that your time at home doesn’t belong to you either, that there’s always something to do, that you can’t do enough in the day no matter how hard you work! Who’s with me?"

Jason added: "What dya reckon? Shall we start one of those government petitions?

"I could be like Marcus Rashford but instead of getting kids free school dinners I just got rid of homework!

"My goodness, I’d be a hero to future generations! Nay, a God!"

But not everyone was on board with Jason's wild idea.

One told him: "Suppose your kids will inherit your fortune. Other kids do homework to get an edge in the non celebratory children job market."

Jason replied with two 'crying with laughter' emojis, saying: "Fortune?. P*** funny."

Another critic also managed to get Jason's back up by branding him a "champagne socialist".

The follower told Jason: "Spoken like someone whose made enough money not to worry about having an education and who feels entitled to diss those who aspire to better themselves by their own efforts. A classic champagne socialist."

Clearly riled, Jason replied: "Oh do f*** off! So bored of c**** like you."

But another chimed in: "He's right though Manford you pompous p****. Kids need to work, need to understand graft.

"You got lucky because you have talent. So you don't make your kids do homework that's your call but calling people a c*** on socials because.......well he's right."

Jason responded by telling the chap: "Don’t be a c*** as well."

Despite having critics, Jason was also met with support for his campaign.

He ran a poll, asking people to vote for or against homework.

One option read: "Homework is great idea." The second stated: "Homework is terrible."

A whopping 11,178 people took park in Jason's poll, with 86.1 per cent voting that "homework is terrible". Just 13.9 per cent agreed that "homework is a great idea".

One supporter told Jason: "Totally agree - and I’m a headteacher (among other things). Research shows it has little impact on learning.

"In my opinion, it has value in 6th form. Other than that, play, read, relax, hobbies and interests."

Another added: "I am a teacher who agrees with you. So much homework is just busy work which has no function other than complying with the system.

'It’s unnecessary pressure for families. Once YP have exams there will be a need to revise and perhaps complete course work but not before that."

And a third wrote: "I say this too. It’s like me doing a 12 hour shift then going home and having to do some extra when I get home. They’ve done their hours at school. Let them rest."
