Primark launches 'January sale' in stores - how to spot hidden bargains

PRIMARK has launched a "January sale" in stores and we explain how to spot the hidden bargains.

The budget brand prides itself as one of the cheapest fashion retailers on the high street.

Primark also denies playing host to seasonal sales like its competitors.

In 2021, a spokesperson for the retailer said: "We don’t hold seasonal sales or special discounts because we offer amazing fashion at amazing prices all year round!"

However, The Sun has now confirmed with Primark that some of its stores currently have markdowns on selected products - replicating what other retailers do in their January sales.

It comes after we received photographs of signs in shop windows which advertised reductions in store.

A Primark spokesperson said: "We work hard to offer great value all year round and while we don’t hold big store-wide traditional sales, we do offer some markdowns throughout the year.

"We currently have some markdowns on offer in store at the moment on selected seasonal products and ranges and these are indicated by the red pricing stickers on products."

And this is not the first time that Primark has offered markdowns on selected items.

The Sun previously discovered how it uses red labels on "secret" sale items in some of its stores.

And back in 2021, we found jumpers with a 58% markdown - from £12 to £5.

Items with red sticker markdowns are usually end-of-season or stock that is to be discontinued.

If shoppers want to find the hidden bargains then they should ask a member of Primark's customer service staff to point them out.

Some stores may even have a rail of sale items - but it does vary between stores.

But it's important to make clear that only a tiny proportion of Primark's stock is discounted and there's no guarantee that your local store will have red sticker markdowns.

Primark's "January sale" comes only two months after the retailer launched its highly-anticipated click-and-collect service at 25 stores.

The Sun was given an exclusive first look at the new click and collect desk at Primark in Sheffield.

For the time being only kid's toys, clothing and nursery ranges are available through the click-and-collect service.

That means you won't be able to order other ranges, like womenswear and homeware, and pick it up.

After browsing online and adding items to a virtual basket, shoppers will be able to choose a day to collect their parcel.

Orders will be available for collection between two and seven days after the order has been placed.

Primark also introduced self-service checkouts in select stores in recent months as a way to reduce queuing times.

The retailer also has plans to open new stores in Bury St Edmunds, Craigavon, Salisbury and Teesside Park.

Primark will also relocate its current shops to better spots in Bradford and High Wycombe.

We've listed all the retailers with January sales that have items up to 80% off including Asos, M&S and Johns Lewis.
