The bizarre moment a man 'fights' a large ostrich by the roadside, apparently attempting to get it off the street after it ran in front of traffic, has been caught on camera.

The peculiar scene was captured by a woman, who was not named, as she was passing by in Kaifeng, in China's central Henan Province. Phone footage, shared on Douyin, China's version of TikTok, on November 29, shows the man dressed all in black, grabbing the tall bird by its neck and pulling it off the road before it gets hit by one of the passing vehicles.

The two entered a short struggle as the bird flapped its massive wings and tried to free itself. But the man persisted and held tightly onto the ostrich to prevent it from running off onto the road again.

According to eyewitnesses, the drama started when the ostrich stuck its head into a car parked by the roadside, and the driver inside pushed it back out. Later, the man seen in the video caught up with the ostrich, grabbed its neck and took it away.

Douyin users were astonished by the sight of a man trying to take on the powerful bird that was even bigger than him. User 'Twenty Thirteen' commented: "This is probably because he's afraid that the ostrich will be hit." User '2869005213871' wrote: "Can they fight too?!" And 'Xiaoyan' jokingly asked: "Does the ostrich want to get into a car?"

The ostrich (Struthio camelus) is the world's largest and heaviest bird, known for its flightlessness and distinctive long legs and neck. Native to Africa, it possesses strong running abilities and is recognised for its large, powerful beak and prominent feathers. Ostriches are social animals, often found in groups, and are characterised by their inquisitive nature and excellent eyesight.
