IT’S difficult to believe anything in Omid Scobie’s scandal plagued book.

Publishers in the Netherlands have pulled it from shelves and my preference would be to pulp the lot.

But let’s imagine that the latest allegations to emerge from the discredited Dutch version are true.

In Scobie’s telling, William denied Harry the chance to fly to the Queen’s deathbed.

For this, he describes the Prince as “heartless”.

Even if this is the case then these are not the actions of a heartless man, but a deeply hurt one.

William has dealt with the constant barrage of attacks from Harry and Meghan with stoic silence.

He’s had his temper questioned, family secrets aired on global television and now his darling wife Kate has to deal with the indignity of being named as an alleged royal racist.

So if he is “angry” and believes Harry’s actions have been “unforgivable” then who could really blame him?

And there’s another reason William may have not wanted to end up on a plane alone with his brother - he may have feared anything said would end up in another book!

Ultimately, we don’t know if William attempted to block Harry’s chance to go to Scotland to say goodbye to his grandmother.

But what we do know is that he was able to put their feud behind him to initiate a joint walkabout with his brother and Meghan just two days after the Queen’s death.

That was the action of a man of service and dignity.

We saw that again this week as William and Catherine smiled their way through the Royal Variety Performance despite the ongoing racism storm.

He is getting on with the job he was born to do while others continue to snipe from the sidelines.

The Royal Family is acting with great dignity by staying silent.

The tawdry allegations in this book don’t merit a response.
