Who is Maryam Moshiri? 

Maryam Moshiri is a Chief Presenter on BBC News, in the United Kingdom and worldwide.

She studied Italian at University College London, graduating in 2000, before studying Broadcast Journalism at the London College of Communications

Maryam was born on June 9, 1977, in Tehran, Iran, and describes herself on Twitter as a “lifelong Londoner.”

Why is Maryam Moshiri trending? 

Maryam is trending on Twitter due to a mortifying live-on-air blunder on December 6, 2023. 

The news anchor was getting ready to deliver the day’s news headlines, apparently joking with colleagues behind the camera. 

As the BBC News show went live, Maryam could be seen flashing her middle finger to the camera, in an embarrassing live moment.

She seamlessly put her hand down and delivered the news as usual, keeping a straight face. 

She quickly said: "Live from London, this is BBC News."

Maryam took to Twitter to apologise and explain the embarrassing situation:

“It was a private joke with the team and I’m so sorry it went out on air! 

“It was not my intention for this to happen and I’m sorry if I offended or upset anyone. 

“I wasn’t ‘flipping the bird’ at viewers or even a person really. 

“It was a silly joke that was meant for a small number of my mates.”

Some viewers shared their thoughts on the BBC incident on Twitter, with one saying: "This your news organisation giving the middle finger to the people."

Others didn’t see it as a big deal, Tweeting support to Maryam.

One said: “Wild world we live in when you have to apologise for something like this”.

Another Tweeted: “Don’t worry about it! Clear you were only having a moment of levity with crew.”

Is Maryam Moshiri married and does she have children? 

Maryam is married to Jonathan Farmer, who is the editor-in-chief of Latin American Newsletters.

They have three children together, including a daughter called Iris, and another called Vivien. 

According to Maryam’s Twitter bio at the time of writing, the family also have a dog and two cats. 

What TV shows has Maryam Moshiri presented?

Maryam started her career at production company ITN as a business reporter, before moving to the Beeb in 2003, as a presenter.

She has presented several BBC shows, such as The Business Briefing, Work Life and Talking Business. 

Maryam has also presented BBC radio shows. 

In 2023, Maryam was made a presenter of the BBC’s Daily Global Show, which is viewed by 100 million people weekly.
