Stand-up comic Chris Ramsey is one of the big name presenters fronting this year’s Children In Need.
The 37-year-old will be on hosting duties for fundraising’s biggest night of the year when it airs on the BBC on Friday, November 17, alongside Jason Manford, Mel Giedroyc, Alex Scott, Ade Adepitan and Lenny Rush. There are also rumoured guest appearances from MasterChef star Greg Wallace and a Doctor Who special from David Tennant.
When he’s not on the telly, Chris is working alongside wife Rosie Ramsey, also 37, who he has been married to for 10 years. The couple shot to fame with their award-winning podcast Shagged, Married, Annoyed, which has the nation in stitches with their candid chats about their own married life.
It has since racked up over 170 million downloads and won the Best Comedy Podcast gong earlier this year. The couple are about to head out on a live podcast tour around the UK and recently landed their very own TV chat show, The Chris and Rosie Ramsey Show, where they welcome celebrity couples to probe their pet relationship peeves, parenting problems and everything in between.
Here’s what we know about the rising star couple’s life off-screen, from raising two kids to a look inside their £1.5 million Northumberland home and a devastating miscarriage before youngest son Rafe was born.
Couple accused of causing a miscarriage with poison and disposing of baby's bodyCelebrity wife Rosie
Chris met Rosie when they were just 14 and still at school in their hometown of South Shields. They later attended the same college together before becoming at item a few years later after bumping into each other on a night out in 2012.
After a whirlwind romance, the pair got engaged after just six months and tied the knot in 2014. Before their broadcast careers took off, Chris started out as a stand-up comic and recently toured the UK with his one-man show.
While a pre-fame Rosie is said to have worked as a Pontins Bluecoat and announcer at Newcastle Racecourse before landing a job as a presenter on Capital radio. But it was their joint podcast Shagged, Married, Annoyed, which they launched in 2019, which cemented their celebrity status.
It is still one of the most successful podcasts in the UK and their live tours have sold out around the country. They are the only podcasters to have sold out London’s O2 arena, for which they received a commemorative plaque. They also sold out Wembley Arena in a day, so it’s fair to say they are the nation’s new sweethearts.
Cute kids
Chris and Rosie are parents to two sons. Robin was born in October 2015, around a year after they got married, so is now eight years old. While second son Rafe came along in January 2021, so is now two.
While their kids know the famous theme tune to their podcast – with oldest son Robin even adapting it to his own version – the couple say they are too little to listen to it in full or watch their TV show.
In an exclusive chat with the Mirror, Chris said: “Oh no, there’s too many dirty stuff for the kids” as wife Rosie added: “Our son sings ‘the Robin and Rafe Ramsey Show’, so he has stolen the theme tune, which is very cute.”
But for now, the youngsters make rare appearances on their parents social media feeds as they keep them out of the spotlight, apart from at birthdays or when they are trying out new LEGO toys together.
Fancy £1.5 million house
Despite their success neither Chris or Rosie will leave their native Tyneside for London – because they don’t want their children to lose their Geordie accents.
Chris said: “We’d have to do what Cillian Murphy did with his children when they were getting a London accent and boot them all back up pretty quickly. We love the North East. Plus South Shields just won Best Beach Of The Year.”
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds' classy message to Wrexham ace after baby newsRosie added: “All our family and friends, our whole unit, is in the north.” This is no doubt why the couple chose to buy a ‘dream’ family home in the North East said to be worth £1.5 million.
The couple moved into their fancy pad near South Shields, Tyne and Wear in March 2021 and it’s thought to have an impressive six bedrooms, vast garden and a home library at the property, which dates back to 1876 and includes period features and panelled doors. The house also has high ceilings, a drawing room and fireplaces throughout it. But one of its most impressive features is a large marble hallway, which has a spacious wine cellar to fill with the finest vino.
Tragic miscarriage
In August 2018, the couple announced Rosie had suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage. Sharing their experience on Instagram, Chris called his wife a "warrior".
Rosie then wrote: "Good morning. Apologies for our silence across our social media's this week, it's safe to say we've had a pretty s***ty one. Last week we thought we would be sharing some lovely news with you all but sadly that was not to be."
The couple were told that their much-wanted baby had not survived at a routine hospital pregnancy scan. Rosie explained: "When we went for our 12 week scan our baby could not be found. He or she had passed early on in the pregnancy leaving behind the pregnancy sac, this is called a Blighted Ovum. (missed miscarriage).
"My body still thought I was pregnant for all those weeks after the baby had passed, hormones were released and everything apart from the baby was still growing. I'd never heard of this before so as you can imagine it all came as a great shock."
Devastatingly, Rosie still had to go through a procedure after hearing the devastating news: She said: "Unfortunately it didn’t all end there as we were told I still needed to have a miscarriage to rid my body of the sac, placenta etc.
"I was admitted into hospital a few days later to start the procedure. It was awful. Cramping, vomiting, fainting, fever, really just not nice. After 5 rounds of tablets over a course of 20 or so hours the doctors told me it hadn’t worked as effectively as they’d hoped. I was then taken to surgery to have everything removed. It is now finally all over." She added that the couple's son, Robin, had been "wonderful through this" and said "we feel so blessed to have him in our lives". The couple then went on to welcome son Rafe in 2021.
