Liverpool have finally earned their first Premier League win of 2023, with a dominant Merseyside Derby victory over Everton.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo were enough to hand Jurgen Klopp's men a crucial three points over their fierce rivals. The win comes after Jordan Henderson hit out at those who have criticised the Reds for their efforts over what has been a difficult campaign.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has also been left perplexed by a claim from Rafa Benitez over his alliegences on Merseyside and the Reds slammed UEFA after a report into the chaos at last season's Champions League final was leaked. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Liverpool news.

Henderson hits out

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has hit out at those criticising his team-mates for a lack of effort this season. The Reds have struggled in the first months of 2023, but Henderson does not believe all the criticism has been fair.

"Recent results – and our form over the season in general – means we have to accept a lot of the criticism that has come our way. This is the price on the ticket when you sign for a big club and there aren't many that are as big as this one," he wrote in his programme notes.

"No problem – this goes with the territory. There is one criticism that I will never allow to be levelled at this group of players, though, and that is that they're not giving their all or that their desire isn't as strong as it was previously."

Jamie Carragher has been left shock after legendary Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez admitted he cannot decide if he is now "more Liverpool or Everton". Benitez had an ill-fated spell in charge of the Toffees last season, following a highly-successful time at the Reds.

Ahead of Monday's Merseyside Derby, Benitez admitted he now finds it hard to choose which club he is more closely associated with. But Carragher, who worked under the Spaniard during his time at Anfield, has been left shocked by that admission.

He posted two shell-shocked emojis while quote tweeting a report carrying Benitez's quotes. Benitez will have been left happy in part after Liverpool's win, though his Everton-supporting side will have fumed at Everton's performance.

Reds slam UEFA

Liverpool have slammed UEFA after a report into the chaos at the Champions League final last season was leaked ahead of its official publication date. The report cleared Reds fans of any wrongdoing, as well as blasting the governing body and Paris police.

"It’s hugely disappointing that a report of such significance, such importance to football supporters’ lives and future safety, should be leaked and published in this way," a statement from Liverpool read.

"It’s been over eight months of work by the independent panel and it is only right and proper to publish the contents of the report to our supporters appropriately."
