BUTLIN’S has been forced to close its popular water park at one of its resorts.

The holiday resort recently started their festive breaks, just in time for Christmas.

However, families heading to the Skegness park have been told that the Splash Waterworld, the indoor water park, has been forced to close.

The closure is due to a burst water pipe, which happened over the weekend.

Having been forced to close last week, the resort has warned that it could remain closed until at least December 3 - in a blow for Brits with festive breaks booked.

A Butlin's spokesperson said: "We unfortunately encountered a burst pipe which has caused the temporary closure of Splash Waterworld in our Skegness resort.

"We are planning to reopen the pool within the next two weeks and we have contacted any impacted guests on breaks up to this point with some further information."

Guests have been offered a £25 refund if their break is affected although many have said this isn’t enough, what with it being one of the main indoor attractions.

Dad Michael Davies told the BBC that they have been left "in limbo" as to whether the pool will reopen by December 23, and even claim to have been told it won't open until "February next year".

And one mum said she had been forced to cancel her break, choosing to go to the Bognor Regis park instead.

She said: "The pool is so important for people, especially during the winter months when you can't spend hours on the fairground because it's too cold."

The waterpark has a huge indoor pool with a whirlpool, wave pool and rapids, as well as a kid's pool and two water flumes.

Earlier this year, Butlin's was forced to close its Minehead resort for weeks due to flooding.

Holidays during the October half term were cancelled after the pool, restaurant and accommodation was affected.

However, the parks have revealed a number of new attractions in recent months.

The Skegness park revealed its £2.5million new playground earlier this year.

The Skypark has the UK’s longest seesaw as well as four huge climbing towers.

Also set to open at Skegness next year is the £12million Maple Walk Village, with 128 lodges.

With overnight stays open for bookings from May 2024, the new accommodation will be within walking distance of the main areas.

And a £15million indoor activity centre with laser tag and escape rooms will open at the Bognor Regis park by Autumn 2024, with more than two floors of games.
