Gary Neville doubled down on his feelings on the European Super League after new plans for the competition were launched on Thursday morning.

The Super League was handed fresh hope after it was ruled that a suspension on breakaway leagues goes against European Union law. The EU Court of Justice confirmed: "The FIFA and UEFA rules making any interclub football project subject to their prior approval, such as the Super League, and prohibiting players from playing in those competitions, are unlawful."

Organisers of the revamped European Super League, A22 Sports, duly released fresh proposals which are different to those that were put forward back in April 2021. Then, 12 teams - including six from the Premier League - were planning to break away and form their own tournament. However, those plans lasted less than 48 hours as the six Premier League teams all pulled out following backlash from fans and pundits from across the continent.

Now, fresh plans have been put together for a revived European Super League, though Manchester United have already reaffirmed their commitment to UEFA. It came after Barcelona and Real Madrid both backed the renewed competition, while the majority of the other La Liga sides have condemned the proposals, using the hashtag #EarnItOnThePitch. Meanwhile, German clubs, led by Bayern Munich, are refusing to take part.

Neville took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon to express his feelings on the new plans. He made no bones about where he stands, saying simply: "No thanks".

His comment comes as little surprise given two-and-a-half years Neville had some harsh words to say about the so-called 'Big Six', when the news of the initial European Super League broke out in April 2021.

"I'm disgusted with Manchester United and Liverpool the most," Neville told Sky Sports at the time. "They're breaking away to a competition they can’t be relegated from? It’s an absolute disgrace. We have to wrestle back power in this country from the clubs at the top of this league – and that includes my club.

"It’s pure greed, they’re impostors. The owners of Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City have nothing to do with football in this country. Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham aren’t even in the Champions League. Have they even got the right to be in there?

"They’re an absolute joke. Time has come now to have independent regulators to stop these clubs from having the power base. Enough is enough."
