Kevin McCloud's TV fame isn't enough to help him keep builders around for his epic builds.

GRAND Designs star Kevin McCloud has admitted he can’t seem to keep his tradesmen around for long.

The Channel 4 presenter has been fronting the property renovation show since 1999 and has overseen countless projects in that time - but apparently his 'fussiness' can cause problems.

In a recent interview with New Zealand media outlet Stuff, he opened up about his own 'last great adventure', upcoming shows abroad, and his challenges and successes with Grand Designs.

It is no secret that the professional house renovator has had problems keeping his tradesmen, and when asked about this, he replied: “I keep them for as long as it takes them to get all the selfies they need, and then they’re off.”

When asked why they leave, Kevin admitted: “It’s probably because I’m fussy. It’s true.

“Finding good people is hard – people who are also tidy and see the world as you do, and want to do a beautiful job and not leave their crap everywhere. That’s really, really hard.”

Kevin will be kicking off his “designy” UK Home Truths show tour in January.

He has expressed that the show will involve: “engineering for idiots, which suits me, so lots of fun, silly stuff, and in between there are some serious pickings.”

Speaking about the upcoming tour that will also take place in New Zealand, he said: “This is a massive opportunity for me to say to all of your readers, please send via X(Twitter) to my account any questions you have about design.

“Your town, your roads, why the buses aren't running, what you should do with your elderly aunt or annoying dog. I’ll happily ignore most of them. The people behind the scenes will sort them out.”

The architecture guru also revealed that he is currently working on a 400-year-old house near the Wales border.
