A STUDENT who ate a gummy bear laced with cannabis then was caught riding an e-scooter has been banned from driving.
Josh Evans, 18, only has a provisional licence but is disqualified for a year because the power-assisted scooter is classed as a motor vehicle.
JPs heard Evans ate the sweet after finishing work at a pub.
He knew it contained cannabis but did not realise the drug would have an effect straight away.
Evans jumped on a friend’s e-scooter but was stopped in the road by police who said he looked “fatigued and drowsy”.

He was found to be 0.5mcg over the 2mcg legal limit for THC — the psychoactive part of cannabis.
Had he been on the pavement he would not have been stopped, a court heard.
Mark Hensleigh, defending, said: “That one gummy is going to have a catastrophic effect on him going forward.”
He argued there were not enough warnings on the boxes for e-scooters about not riding them on the road or while under the influence.
And he queried if a prosecution was in the public interest.
But Leah Dillon, prosecuting, said more cases of people drinking and drug driving on e-scooters were coming through the courts.
Evans is doing a T-level in finance at Poole High School, Dorset.
He is due to do a work placement with JP Morgan but that might be at risk given his conviction, Mr Hensleigh told the town’s magistrates’ court.
Evans, who was 17 and going through family issues at the time, pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle while over the drug limit.
He also got a conditional discharge and must pay a £26 victim surcharge.
