It will follow the character - played by Golda Rosheuvel - and reveals how she became the iconic character she is in Bridgerton.

It will tell the story of her marriage to King George, and how their love story also created a societal shift.

The younger Queen will be played by India Amarteifio and today the show's creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes has revealed when it will be released on the streaming service.

Fans don't have too much longer to wait it seems, as Shonda said it would drop on May 4, 2023.

As well as Golda, original Bridgerton stars appearing in the prequel include Adjoa Andoh as Lady Agatha Danbury, Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton, and Hugh Sachs as Brimsley.

Meanwhile Corey Mylchreest plays young King George, a handsome Royal with a mysterious past which gets in the way of him opening up fully to true love.

Bridgerton made its debut on Netflix on Christmas Day in 2020 and focused on Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Bassett's love story.

Season two followed in March last year and followed Daphne's brother Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma.

Meanwhile season three is already filming and will see Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) take the lead.

Season three's new showrunner, Jess Brownwell previously said: "I really feel like it’s Colin and Penelope’s time. Because we’ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since season 1, we’ve already invested in them a little bit.

"We know who they are as people... there are these moments of tension between them where it’s like, Colin walks up to the line of almost realising that Penelope has feelings for him but doesn’t quite get there. Instead of treading water on that dynamic, we wanted to push it into their season. It really felt like the perfect moment to tee it up."

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will premiere on Netflix on May 4, 2023.
