Nestled in a lime tree at Pitchford in Shropshire, the treehouse is thought to be the oldest of its kind in the world, with mentions of it in history dating all the way back to 1692.

This 17th-century creation has not only stood the test of time but is known for hosting royal guests like Queen Victoria.

According to the history books, the queen admired a foxhunt from this very tree house during her visit to Pitchford Hall as a princess

Now, those looking to immerse themselves in its history can stay right next door at the Tree House Barn on the Pitchford Estate, which is a conservation area due to its proximity to the Grade I listed hall and the historic treehouse.

The famous treehouse, which was revamped in 1760 and again in 1980, provides still retains its moulded cornice ceiling, stripped oak floors and Gothic windows.

When it was first built in the 1600s the treehouse was supported entirely by the tree.

Now, because of its age, the tree is held up by metal supports and wires, so that it can remain standing in its rightful place for decades to come.

You can book a tour which costs £20 and includes a complete tour of the hall, the grounds and the treehouse - all led by a tour guide.

Sadly you can't stay in the treehouse - but you can stay right next to it.

Those who want to stay the night at Tree House Barn, which is set within Pitchford Park Farm, can expect a more modern stay.

It makes use of water from a nearby well, renewable heating from an air source heat pump and solar energy.

Tree House Barn features two double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, an open-plan kitchen, an oak-panelled sitting room and a garden with a patio and BBQ area.

The barn's interiors include designer elements like a Metris kitchen, CP Hart bathrooms, and lighting from French designer Gema Povo.

Visitors can enjoy views of the world's oldest treehouse from the barn, alongside amenities like satellite TV, antique furniture, and plenty of parking. You won’t find any WiFi there, however.

The UK is also home to the world's biggest treehouse.

The title was originally held by a huge treehouse home in the US, which sadly burnt down.

Now, the world's biggest is The Treehouse at The Alnwick Gardens, which has a cosy restaurant inside.

And you can even rent a number of stunning treehouses in the UK.

A new treehouse resort in the Cotswolds that will be "like a five-star hotel" is set to open in March 2024.
