BRITAIN’S trade deal with the European Union faces being re-opened under Labour, a shadow Minister has suggested.

Labour frontbencher Abena Oppong-Asare stumbled as she indicated the party would “look at” the terms of the UK’s exit agreement to get the economy growing.

The shadow Treasury Minister was asked by Times Radio if a Labour government would reconsider the terms of the trade deal in light of claims Brexit has cost the UK major investment.

She said: “I think there are a number of factors we need to look at. I’ve already highlighted the fact that we’ve had 13 years of a Tory government where we’re also seeing real wages are down, families are worse, the economy is lagging behind.

“It’s not clear cut as just saying, you know, review what’s happened with Brexit. We need to look at everything across the board.”

Sir Keir Starmer has said Britain would not rejoin either the single market or customs union if he got the keys to Downing Street.

She also refused to say whether Labour would hike council tax after it emerged three in four town halls will hike it by 5 per cent this year.

The Labour MP said: “I think it’d be really irresponsible of me to just pluck a figure or say that we’ll do that.”
