BBC Radio star Alex Hall has announced her departure from Radio Tees after a remarkable 35 years.
The much-loved radio star, 74, shared the shock news on social media, much to the dismay of her loyal listeners. In a short but poignant post, Alex wrote: "This morning I did my last show on BBC local radio. My regular programme ended in November, but I was asked to do some cover, which I was happy to do. Delaying the inevitable. Today I have to concede defeat. 35 years in local and regional radio and it's over. Wow."
Her followers were shocked by the news, with one listener expressing their outrage: "What's happening to BBC Local Radio is outrageous," they wrote. "Those in charge should be ashamed. All the very best to you Alex, thank you for your great service."

Another fan praised her, saying: "One of the greats Alex. Standing in for you on The Late Show all those years ago was a privilege because of the family of listeners you'd built. That's such a skill. Big love x." While a third added: "A huge loss, Alex. You're a fantastic broadcaster. I'm really sorry."
In addition to her radio career, Alex also had a successful stint as an actress, most notably playing headteacher Jean Strickland in Emmerdale from 1999 until 2001. Her character tragically died in a hit-and-run accident involving students from her school, Hotten Comprehensive.

The mum-of-two has also acted in popular shows like Coronation Street, Prime Suspect and kids' favourite Byker Grove. She started her radio career with a late-night phone-in show on TFM in the 80s.
Throughout the 90s, she was a regular voice on Magic 828 and Network First, before joining BBC Radio York in 2000. In 2006, she moved from Radio Leeds to Radio Tees, where she hosted mid-morning and tea-time shows.
Alex ended her stint hosting Sunday evening's Songs from the Shows in November.
