Camila Batmanghelidjh was only 61 when she died.

The charity founder passed away peacefully following her birthday party.

She was ill for several months before her death, her family say.

Who was Camila Batmanghelidjh?

Camila Batmanghelidjh was an Iranian-Belgian author, psychotherapist and former charity executive.

Her parents met and married in London while her father was studying, before heading back to Iran.

Her birth was two-and-a-half-months premature and she was not expected to survive.

Camila attended school in Dorset before graduating with a first class degree in Theatre and the Dramatic Arts from the University of Warwick in Warwickshire.

She was born in 1963 in Iran before eventually relocating to London in 1991 when she founded her first charitable organisation, The Place To Be.

This was a family services unit based out of Southwark, London.

Kids Company was a charity founded by Camila back in 1996.

The aim of the charity was to aid children who had been impacted by abuse, violence, sexual trauma and gang violence.

It began by holding drop-in clinics across South London and over the following decade it continued to expand.

Funding for the organisation came from Government grants and businesses, alongside general donations.

Over the course of its existence, Kids Company claimed to have helped over 36,000 children and young people.

It attracted a number of celebrity backers including Coldplay, artist Damien Hirst and comedian Michael McIntyre. 

The charity collaborated with scientists to be able to better understand how childhood trauma negatively impacts brain development and overall health.

Kids Company shut down amid allegations of mismanagement and the squandering of funds.

Did Camila Barmanghelidjh have a partner?

It is unclear whether or not the charity boss was in a relationship.

It is stated that she passed surrounded by friends and family.
