Getting their year off to a good start, a number of people were seen taking a plunge into the Serpentine's icy waters in London's Hyde Park.

The harsh morning chill wasn't low enough to put one man off from taking a dip in his speedos.

Two women appeared comfortable in their one-piece bathing suits with smiles on their faces as they took in the start of a new year.

Elsewhere, crowds of people were seen heading into the sea to take part in the Mablethorpe Big Dip in Lincolnshire.

The event has been set up to raise money for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.

One cheeky man in a barely-there ensemble was seen waving to the camera with a big grin as he exited the water.

A loved-up couple appeared proud of their New Year's Day efforts with a thumbs up and a fist pump while making their way back to shore.

Weary onlookers appeared entertained as they snapped pictures from the safety of the beach.

Beachgoers were previously seen diving into the cold water in Perranporth, north Cornwall, on Boxing Day.

While there weren't many wearing wetsuits, some were yet to shake off their festive outfits just yet.

Santa hats, reindeer antlers and Christmas-themed attire could be spotted across different beaches.

Thousands participate in the big dip each year, with people gathering in Tynemouth, north-east England, Deal in Kent, Pembrey and Tenby in Wales, North Yorkshire as well as parts of Scotland.
