A MCLAREN supercar has been left without a front or side after a shocking motorway smash.

The McLaren 720S, worth a staggering £200,000 when new, was in a crash on Friday between J3 and J2 on the eastbound section of the M54 near Wolverhampton.

Shocking pictures showed the extent of damage to the white McLaren as it lay on the hard shoulder.

Most of the front end has been destroyed while the passenger side of the car is completely missing.

Officers from the Central Motorway Police Group were sent to the scene and found the supercar after it crashed off the road.

The accident caused delays of up to 70 minutes.

NO INJURIES

A police spokesman said: "This morning we have attended a road traffic collision on the M54.

“Luckily no one was injured following the collision and the road is now reopened."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of an RTC between junctions 3 and 2 of the M54 near Brewood just before 7.10am.

“An ambulance was sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found one car had come off the road and crashed.

"The driver, a man, was already out of the vehicle and was treated by medics for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton for further treatment."

A spokesperson for National Highways added: "All lanes are now open on the #M54 eastbound between J3 (Cosford) and J2 (#Wolverhampton) following an earlier collision and vehicle fire.

“There are residual delays of at least one hour in the area, but should now start to ease."

It comes after another supercar, an Audi R8 worth more than £130,000, was totalled following a collision with another car in November last year.

Just a month earlier, we reported on a luxury Ferrari worth £2.5m written off after a crash in Italy.

The driver of a 1960s 275 GTB was lucky to survive the smash after it veered off the road and smashed into a wooden barrier alongside the Po River between Piacenza and San Rocco al Porto.

While in July of the same year, passengers in a Lamborghini which crashed were schoolboys said to have hired the £187,000 supercar to take them to prom.

Meanwhile, a rare McLaren Speedtail with just 56 miles on the clock and one previous owner is set to sell for £2million.

And a car dubbed "the most beautiful Ferrari ever built" could be yours - for an eye-watering price of £29million.
