Olive oil, sometimes called "liquid gold," is the queen of fats; it is monounsaturated and full of healthful chemicals, including antioxidants, that you won't find in processed or animal fats.

According to research, switching will also provide a plethora of health advantages for the user. Olive oil is a natural laxative, which is one of its most well mentioned uses. The most prevalent gastrointestinal ailment, constipation (infrequent or painful bowel motions) drives millions of Americans to schedule expensive doctor visits annually.

“Constipation happens because your colon (large intestine) absorbs too much water from your poop. This dries out your poop, making it hard in consistency and difficult to push out of your body,” according to a paper published by the Cleveland Clinic. Olive oil contains lipids that help calm the inside of the colon and soften feces by allowing it to absorb more water.

Increased consumption of olive oil has also been linked to a lower risk of dementia, which is the seventh largest cause of mortality worldwide, according to studies. “Some antioxidant compounds in olive oil can cross the blood-brain barrier, potentially having a direct effect on the brain,” Dr. Anne-Julie Tessier of Harvard said. “It is also possible that olive oil has an indirect effect on brain health by benefiting cardiovascular health.”

How much Olive Oil should I consume a day?

It is particularly advantageous to consume one or two teaspoons of olive oil first thing in the morning when you are feeling hungry. By doing this, the oil is able to coat the stomach, promoting better digestion, eliminating waste, and controlling the bacteria in the gut all day long.

What type of olive oil is best?

There are numerous varieties of olive oil, and the flavors and properties varies based on the kind of olives used and the amount of pressings they undergo.

To extract as much liquid as possible from the fruit, several types of olive oil are heated. But extra virgin olive oil is made without refinement by a cold-pressing method that preserves some of the antioxidants and bioactive ingredients. To absorb as many nutrients as you can, experts advise drizzling a spoonful of extra virgin olive oil over your food.
