A prosperous businessman and co-founder of the award-winning architectural design company NA Curtain Walling has had a restraining order forced on him against his wife, because he chucked a pack of sausage rolls at her face during an attack at their £2million home. Nolan Bird exploded into a fit of rage and "smashed up" the snug at their country home. The incident happened after his wife Heather asked him whether a night out with friends in London would involve "cocaine and hookers".

Mr Bird is a successful company director but he hit Mrs Bird in the face using the back of his hand. Then he pushed her to the ground, and said she was "pathetic". He threw a pack of sausage rolls at her nose, a court was told. Two months after the attack, 48-year-old Bird delivered several abusive messages to his wife, who he had been married to for 25 years.

His wife went on to file for divorce, following the abuse. Mr Bird was given a two-year restraining order to prevent him from contacting his 47-year-old wife, The Daily Mail reports. Portsmouth Magistrates' Court identified that the abuse happened at Bird's five-and-a-half acre home in the South Downs National Park, which is close by to Lovedean.

The property features grand views, multiple outbuildings, stables, a koi pond and gym on site. Speaking to the court, prosecutor Rhys Evans said that Bird's assault was "prolonged and sustained". It took place on March 3 last year.

Mr Evans said: "He went to London with friends, which sparked an argument. She texted him asking if he went for cocaine and hookers. She was concerned as he previously threatened to commit suicide due to drug use."

When he came back to London that evening, Bird allegedly went mad and "smashed up the snug" in their home. When Mr Evans said Bird backhanded Mrs Bird in the face, she fled the kitchen and where Bird "pushed her causing her to fall to the floor", after calling her "pathetic".

The packet of sausages allegedly hit his wife square on the nose, and two months later, after receiving the torrent of offensive and abusive text messages to his wife, she left the property in "substantial distress". Her victim impact statement revealed that she was at "high risk" and that she should go and stay with her father.

She said: "I felt after that I had been forced into this situation. Being told I'm a victim of domestic abuse is very difficult since he was my husband of 25 years and I loved and supported him. It put me at complete rock bottom. All joy had left me and I felt totally betrayed."

Mr Bird stated she has filed for divorce, and on Wednesday the court heard she is now living in a different location. Now Mrs Bird is on antidepressants, has been to therapy and was told by a doctor she has post-traumatic stress disorder. In Bird's defence, Lian Websiter said he was under a lot of business pressure in the run-up to his offences because had had to make staff redundant.

But magistrate Chair Barrie Audus deemed the domestic abuse as "serious" and enacted a two-year restraining order to ban Bird from being in touch with his wife. He added: "Should Heather Bird contact you directly you must not respond."

As well as being put under a 12-month community order, he had to undertake 20 rehabilitation days, alongside 200 hours of unpaid community service. He was ordered to pay £199 to cover court costs and the victim surcharge.
