Erasmus, 51, was rushed to hospital following the “freak accident.”

And he is now recovering after undergoing a medical procedure to lessen the damage of the burns.

A statement from South Africa rugby read at the time: “Rassie Erasmus, SA Rugby’s Director of Rugby, is recovering in hospital following a medical procedure for chemical burns sustained in a freak accident using a powerful detergent product.

“He is otherwise in good health and expects to return to full-time working within weeks.”

However, the full extent of Erasmus’ injuries has now been laid bare.

The South Africa icon posted several snaps on Twitter showing his skin looking blistered and burned.

Responding to an event on social media, he said: “Wish I could be there! Well done! Almost healthy.”

Fans quickly wished Erasmus a speedy recovery.

Erasmus made 36 appearances as a player for South Africa.

He then enjoyed spells as coach at clubs like Free States Cheetahs and Munster.

Erasmus later took over as Springboks chief in 2018 before leading them to World Cup glory a year later.

And South Africa made it back-to-back victories when they lifted the trophy again in autumn.
