Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News host, has been spotted at a Russian presidential office sparking rumours that he might be interviewing President Vladimir Putin.

The speculation is rife as he could be the first Western journalist to interview the 71-year-old leader during the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. Izvestia news outlet captured footage of Carlson arriving at the presidential administration.

Earlier, he was seen leaving his hotel in central Moscow while his team loaded equipment into a vehicle. Izvestia is ultimately controlled by National Media Group, led by Putin's long-term partner Alina Kabaeva, 40, an ex-Olympic gold medal-winning rhythmic gymnast.

On Monday, Carlson's car was also seen departing from the Russian presidential administration. Putin's influential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, who is thought to have approved an interview, stated: "I am not commenting in any way on the movements of an American journalist."

Hinting at possible future updates, he added: "At the moment, we have nothing to report." The US journalist was also seen in his hotel restaurant with colleagues in footage by RT. Earlier, he was spotted flying to Moscow via Istanbul, and after his arrival, he visited the world-renowned Bolshoi Theatre.

The pro-Kremlin Telegram channel, Bezgranichny Analitik [Endless Analyst], has announced that President Putin will be giving his first interview with a Western journalist since the start of his "special military operation" against Ukraine nearly two years ago. They said: "Be assured, this time Putin will be heard by many in the West."

State media outlet 360TV displayed an image of Carlson set against St Basil's Cathedral, suggesting Putin may find a more sympathetic interviewer than he has in past encounters with US journalists. This was predicted by a channel linked to state media RIA Novosti.

They speculated: "Maybe he'll be more lucky with Tucker Carlson - it is said the TV host, who openly sympathises with Russia, has come here in the hope of talking to Putin." Kremlin spokesperson Peskov previously expressed scepticism about the value of interviews with Western media, claiming: "[Western] society has been stupefied by Russophobic propaganda."

Pro-Kremlin commentator Sergei Markov added fuel to the fire, saying the US "trembles in anticipation of the interview of America's most popular enemy, Putin, with America's most popular journalist, Tucker Carlson. " He suggested that Putin might use the platform to tell Americans that they should ditch Biden and re-elect Trump, adding: "And Trump's Biden gang will be sent to prison for election fraud. So they tremble."

Ivan Filippov, another commentator, ridiculed the idea that an interview with Tucker Carlson could alter Western views of Putin. He said: "The Z-patriotic hysteria about the visit to Moscow of the real American Tucker Carlson, who will help the sun-faced leader finally breakthrough the 'information blockade' and tell the 'truth' to the West, has reached such proportions that even highly-paid propagandists have become embarrassed."

Journalist Andrey Medvedev shared his observations: "[For] the third day I observe with interest the amazing things. "How people who ridicule Ukrainians for their obsequious curtseys in front of European politicians and public figures carefully record Tucker Carlson's every step and sneeze in Moscow. "He arrived, he ate, he drank tea. "How wonderful it is that an American has come to us! Happiness has arrived. "Comrades, do you yourself feel bipolar?"

The Moscow Times reported that the Kremlin invited Tucker Carlson to Moscow to annoy Biden. "President Vladimir Putin's administration is seeking to use former Fox News star Tucker Carlson's visit to Moscow as a propaganda coup both in Russia and the United States," the news outlet said, quoting "four sources close to the Kremlin". "Tucker has been expected here for a long time. He is welcome here," a source close to the presidential administration told The Moscow Times. "Now everyone in the presidential administration has rolled up their sleeves and is working together."
